PASSWORD PROTECTION
via two level "Security Officer/Master" and "User" system to prevent unauthorized
access to payroll data. Each payroll has its own passwords, which may or
may not be unique to that payroll at user's discretion.
VACATION USAGE
can be tracked and reported. Operator can cause vacation usage and hours
remaining to appear on pay stubs.
AUTOMATIC CARRY-FORWARD
of any negative net pay amounts (from fixed-dollar deductions which exceed
gross pay), with automatic deduction from the first available positive paycheck.
CARRY FORWARD CONTROL
for each employee governs whether carry-forward is generated Normally, flagged
via a Report during calculation, or Suppressed.
CASH ADVANCES
are easily handled. The balance due is reported on the pay stub. You can
cause repayment by entering a specific deduction, or set up a convenient
automatic repayment deduction which repays a certain amount, amount per hour,
or percentage of gross pay: the last payment will automatically be adjusted
to the exact balance due!
401(K), 403(B), 501(c) PENSION PLANS, AND S-125 "CAFETERIA" BENEFIT PLANS
are supported by tax treatment codes with combinations of User-Defined Deductions
and Regular and Non-Cash User-Defined Pay Categories.
HELPFUL ERROR RECOVERY
The system warns you if you try perform functions out of order, issue duplicate
paychecks, etc. It allows you to audit results, make changes, and re-compute
payroll as many times as necessary before you issue paychecks. Automatic
Backup allows simple recovery from equipment malfunctions. You can restart
or reprint torn or jammed checks, W-2, or 1099 forms without starting all
over or ruining totals. DATASMITH payroll respects the operator (it even
says "Thank you"): it doesn't set up roadblocks, and it doesn't gloat about
catching an error: instead, it tries to provide meaningful help .

orders. One-key pause/cancel helps you avoid wasted runs. Timed scrolling
with "pause" and scrolling speed control for useful on-screen previews. Send
reports to a text file and use a standard word processor to edit or include
them in other documents.
HOURS TRANSFER FACILITY
allows you to prepare hours data with a Word Processor or other "foreign"
software: then edit or mix it with normally-entered and automatic payroll
data.
